ENGLISH TRANSLATION

We were both able to, tired of the journey,
To sit for a moment on the edge of the road -
And feel on our foreheads the same shade,
And cast our eyes towards the distant horizon.

But time follows its course and its inflexible slope
Soon separated what it had united, -
And man, under the whip of an invisible power,
Sinks, sad and alone, in the infinite space.

And now, friend, of these past hours,
Of this life together, what is left?
A look, an accent, scraps of thoughts. -
Alas, has what is no more ever been?
